Education

Pain Education is an important component of the UHN-SHS-WCH Division of Pain Medicine. The Pain Education Director (Dr. Paul Tumber) works with the Administrative Assistants at the UHN-SHS-WCH sites to facilitate the scheduling of learners as they rotate through the various sites. All trainees are expected to complete the objectives of their rotation which includes meeting the CanMEDs roles of being a proficient medical expert, communicator, collaborator, manager, health advocate, scholar and professional.

Pain Fellows and Residents are provided with a shared web-based folder which allows access to current information including orientation information, objectives, procedure guides, lecture schedules, research project material, pain assessment tools, dictation templates, practice examination questions, and reference materials. Pain Fellows are paired with a staff person that acts as a mentor while they are enrolled in their pain fellowship. A competency checklist has been developed to help guide the fellows as they progress during their fellowship year.

For all learners that attend a component of Pain Medicine at UHN-SHS-WCH the objective is to provide a quality educational experience, with an emphasis on current evidence-based pain medicine.
